Mapúa to open new Makati campus by 2020

Marianne Lois M. Boncolmo

Equipped with newer facilities for the previous schools housed in the current campus located at Sen. Gil Puyat Avenue, Mapúa University (MU) is set to open the new Makati campus along Pablo Ocampo Sr. Extension by August 2020.

“The reason there actually [is], we wanted a new building and better facilities for our students,” MU President Dr. Reynaldo Vea explained.

The 5,114-square-meter property, 800 meters away from the current annex will house the School of Information Technology (SoIT), E.T. Yuchengco School of Business Management (ETYSBM), Senior High School (SHS), and the School of Media Studies (SMS). Once the eight-story building is fully furnished, all students, faculty, and staff, including the postgraduates, from the said departments will be transferring there.

“The building will be ready by August of next year, so anybody who is still a student by that time, will transfer,” the MU President clarified.

Although the SMS is not part of the present Makati campus, the facilities that their department requires will be accommodated by the same facilities utilized by the SoIT and the newly added program Entertainment and Multimedia Computing. “With the facilities through entertainment and multimedia computing and games, these are the same facilities that could be used by SMS. So, we could use to buy some facilities for the use of the two instead of splitting into half,” Dr. Vea reiterated.

The new campus will be divided into two halves with an eight-storey front building that will cover SoIT, ETYSBM, and SMS, and a rear-side three-storey building that will cater to the SHS. The SHS building will have a roof deck which will contain a student lounge and a gymnasium. Throughout the premises, CCTV units and physical Web infrastructure will also be installed. At the same time, lecture rooms and laboratories will be equipped with better facilities compared to that of the previous campus.
