As part of its preparations toward the Centennial Anniversary in January 2025, Mapúa University (MU) celebrated its centennial countdown motorcade last October 17. Joined by the University administration, alumni, employees, and students, the motorcade began at the first known Mapúa Campus at Doroteo José and ended at the recently established Makati campus.
To kick off the event, a Thanksgiving Mass was held at Sta. Rita de Cascia Chapel that commemorated the 100th day left on the countdown, followed by the deployment of the first batch of vehicles in the motorcade.
The motorcade visited prominent locations where Don Tomas Mapúa designed and journeyed throughout Mapúa’s saga, with the Mapúa Drumcorps and Zamora Band on wheels. The grand motorcade began at the institution’s old site at Doroteo Jose Street, then continued to the Postal Office, followed by the University’s main campus in Intramuros, then along the Philippine General Hospital’s Nurses Home along Pedro Gil, to the De La Salle University Taft Campus, and concluded at the Makati Campus as the final stop.
After the Centennial Countdown motorcade, a press event was held at the Lobby of the Makati Campus – the brief ceremony highlighted the university's milestones from its inception to date, implementation of advanced academic initiatives such as AI, as well as the activities that will lead to the centennial anniversary. Moreover, it also recalled how the institution grew from only 75 students and two programs and has grown to be home to over 75 undergraduate and 50 programs today. It also talked about Mapúa’s diverse partnerships, other academic innovations, and its plans for its 100th jubilee.
MU also unveiled a new mural at the Administration Building of the Intramuros Campus, which now details the University’s achievements from 2018 to 2024. Meanwhile, at the Makati Campus, an installation of the 100th year logo collage was displayed at the lobby.

Before formally ending the event, a series of performances were showcased by the Mapúa Cardinal Singers, Banda Zamora, and soloists from the School of Health Sciences.
In his remarks, MU President and Chief Executive Officer Dr. Dodjie S. Maestrecampo encourages everyone to embrace the milestones and "...continue to build upon the legacy of the firsts as we embark on the next chapter of Mapúa University's journey."
Witnessing such a historic event, current National Association for Mapúa Alumni (NAMA) President Adam C. Abinales looks to the future and invites alumni and future alumni to preserve the legacy of Mapúa, “…I enjoin all the alumni and future alumni to unite and sustain the continuing legacy of the institution and the NAMA organization in the next centenary.” he imparted.
The Centennial Motorcade marks the kickoff of Mapúa’s series of events as they countdown and celebrate its Centennial Anniversary on January 25, 2025.
