Two alumni of the Mapúa Cheerping Cardinals were part of the Southies Cheer Club that bagged two gold medals at the International Cheer Union (ICU) World Cup 2024, held from November 22 to 24, 2024 in Seoul, South Korea.
Cheerping alums Dale de Guzman and Stacy Alcausin represented the Philippines in the competition with the Southies Cheer Club. Dale performed as base in the COED Elite category, while Stacy was a flyer in the Senior Elite COED Non-Tumbling event.
The Southies Cheer Club clinched the top spot in both events, marking the team’s second consecutive year bagging the gold in the ICU World Cup. In 2023, the team finished first in the Coed Elite category.
“I decided until the last minute to try out just for fun,” said Stacy in a message. She recalls several difficulties that they encountered, such as financial costs, time, energy, and the proximity of the venue from home. In the end, they “were able to perform our routine with teamwork and confidence on international soil.”
Stacy attributes her success in the Southies Cheer Club to her experience in the Mapúa Cheerping Cardinals, as well as family, friends, and loved ones, stating that “I received a lot of support in my cheering journey, and for that I'm grateful.”
Dale and Stacy flawlessly executed intricate routines with precision and grace along with their teams. Their journey of cheering from Intramuros to Seoul serves as testament to their hard work and solidifies their positions as true Mapúan prides.
